The Devon blue is a lovely smaller Hybrid chicken they are prolific layers giving up to 300 blue eggs a year! They are docile and very friendly chickens, they have naturally inquisitive natures and will be happy following you around the garden. They can scratch a lawn so unless you have a big free roaming space only 1 or 2 is recommended as part of your back garden flock. *Please note, hybrid hens are cross bred and as such about 10% may not lay the specified coloured egg, if you want a guaranteed egg colour then opt for a pure breed chicken*

The Devon Blue is a lovely laying hen, originally bred to create blue eggs and lay all year round they have been cross bred to create this lovely docile and medium sized laying hen. They are fairly friendly but are not great as pets, they won’t be a cuddly chicken but will be friendly and inquisitive in the garden. As they have a more docile nature they can be suited to a family setting, and will be docile around children.
Devon blues are perfect are roaming in a more open setting, but can be equally as happy in a smaller back garden setting, they are a medium sized bird so need less room than a regular hybrid chicken. They will scratch about so no more than 2 is recommended for a small space. You can even add just 1 to your bantam or ornamental flock to add a fun blue egg and a characterful element.
The Devon Blue is a fairly new breed, created by a poultry rearer in Devon England. They were created to specifically produce blue eggs in high numbers but have been cross bred with docile pure breeds and as such have a lovely nature.
